Privacy Policy for DeDup

Rahul Pahuja ("we," "us," or "our") operates the DeDup mobile application. Your privacy is important to us, and this document explains how we handle your data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide better services to our users.

• Account Data: If you log in via Google or Facebook, we collect your name, email, and profile picture to personalize your experience.
• Device Information: We collect model, OS version, and unique identifiers (via Firebase Analytics) to improve app performance.
• Crash Reports: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect logs when the app crashes to help us fix bugs.

2. Permissions and Data Usage

To provide its core functionality as a storage optimization tool, DeDup requires access to your device's storage. We handle this access with the highest regard for your privacy:

• All Files Access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE):
  Why: This is the core permission of the app. It allows us to scan your entire storage (including non-media files) to identify duplicate documents, zip files, and other "junk" that consumes space.
  Usage: We use this to calculate file hashes locally for comparison. We do not read the content of your personal documents for any purpose other than deduplication.
• Media Permissions (Images, Video, Audio):
  Why: These granular permissions allow us to specifically scan your gallery and music library for duplicate photos, videos, and songs.
  Usage: Used to generate thumbnails for your preview and to perform bit-by-bit comparisons to find exact duplicates.
• Notifications:
  Why: To alert you when your device storage is running low or when a scanning task is complete.
  Usage: Purely for functional alerts; no marketing notifications are sent without your explicit consent.

Local Processing Guarantee: All file scanning, hashing, and duplicate detection happen entirely on your device. No file names, file contents, or metadata from your storage are ever transmitted to our servers or any third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect data:

• Google Play Services / Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Auth)
• Facebook Login SDK

4. Facebook Data Deletion

If you wish to delete data obtained via Facebook Login, you can:

1. Remove the app from your Facebook Settings (Apps and Websites).
2. Contact us at the email below to request manual deletion of your account data.

5. International Data Protection Rights (GDPR & DPDP)

We respect your rights regarding your personal data. Depending on your location (such as the European Union under GDPR or India under the DPDP Act), you have the following rights:

• Right to Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (e.g., your account profile).
• Right to Rectification: You can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): You can request that we delete your personal data.
• Right to Data Portability: You can request that we transfer your data to another service in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on consent (e.g., for analytics), you can withdraw it at any time through the app settings.
• Right to Nominate (DPDP Specific): You have the right to nominate an individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity.

6. Legal Basis for Processing

Under GDPR, our legal basis for processing your data is:

• Performance of a Contract: To provide the core cleaning features you requested.
• Legitimate Interests: To improve app performance via crash reports and analytics.
• Consent: When you voluntarily log in via social media or opt-in to certain features.

7. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (SQLCipher) to protect your local scan history and settings stored on your device.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability

The DeDup application is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. Rahul Pahuja makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to the operation of the app, the accuracy of the duplicate detection, or the information, content, or materials included in the app.

To the full extent permissible by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the app is free of bugs, errors, or other harmful components.

Limitation of Liability: In no event shall Rahul Pahuja be liable for any damages of any kind arising from the use of the app, including, but not limited to, direct, indirect, incidental, punitive, and consequential damages, or any loss of data resulting from the use of the file deletion features.
